What to Expect
What to Expect From Treatment With VANTAS®
The VANTAS implant is designed to deliver continuous treatment for one full year, while treating the symptoms of advanced prostate cancer.
What you can expect during the insertion procedure with VANTAS®
- You should be aware that the exact procedure your doctor uses may differ from the information below. The actual procedure will be described to you by your doctor.
- The insertion and removal of the implant can be performed in your doctor's office.
- The insertion usually requires local anesthetic
for a small cut (incision), so the implant can be placed in your arm.
- Once the implant is inserted, the incision is closed and bandaged.
- The bandage stays on your arm for only 24 hours.
- You may have some pain at the insertion site during and after VANTAS is inserted and removed. You may get some bruising and redness at the site. These usually go away without treatment within 2 weeks.
- One year after the implant is inserted, it can be removed in your doctor's office following a similar procedure. Your doctor can then decide if you need another implant.
After insertion, the VANTAS implant delivers continuous hormone suppression therapy for a full year.
During that year, VANTAS may give you flexibility in scheduling doctor appointments.
