Keep the lines of communication open
Take care of yourself
With all the things you're doing to support the person you're caring for, it's easy to forget to take care of yourself. And that can make your role as caretaker less effective. Make sure you get plenty of sleep, eat well, and exercise when you can. Schedule some regular "me time," such as mini-escapes to the park or to the movies, so you can recharge your batteries. Be sure to maintain a network of personal friends—too many caregivers let their friends drift away. Find ways to keep this from happening.
