It's not easy when your doctor says you have prostate cancer. It may bring up a range of emotions, including fear and anger. What is prostate cancer?
Cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the body. Prostate cancer forms when the abnormal cells grow out of control in the prostate to form a mass called a tumor.
- One in 6 men will be affected by prostate cancer in his lifetime, making it one of the most common types of cancer.
- The mortality rate for this disease continues to decrease, thanks in part to the cancer being found earlier in many men.
- Many men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime if they live long enough, although they can be symptom free.
